I have worked in the film business since 1985, primarily as a film production accountant. During that time I waivered between 'knowing everything' to 'I know nothing about filmmaking'. There are so many stages to filmmaking that you really can't find too many people who could do it all, so in the last few years I have settled on being the guy who's good at pulling together film budgets, helping with the presentations to financiers, reporting the actual expenditures of film production against the budget, collecting funds, maximizing varius country's tax incentives, etc.
What title do you put on all of that? How do I promote that bundle of skills? I found myself getting complicated about it.
Today I clicked on a blog posted to Inditalk.com from India, that I picked up from my Google Alert. It was refreshing to see a post that was simple and optimistic about indi filmmaking. Please check it out. It gave rehabilitated me to a simpler point of view. I hope it works for you too. See http://www.indietalk.com/showthread.php?t=12399
